G2 Is Off to a Delicious Start
Guest post by Cindy Coons, JEWISHcolorado Director of Jewish Explorers & Family Engagement
The first cohort of G2 families, comprised of five grandparent-grandchild family units from four families, began what will be a yearlong journey of connection and legacy sharing with a celebration of the special bond that exists between grandparents and grandchildren.
Because that bond so often revolves around food—delicious family dishes and special treats, sometimes savory, sometimes sweet—each family identified one such recipe particular to their family. Next the grandparent-grandchild pairs worked together to name six of the “ingredients” (metaphorical, that is) that make their family unique and distinctive.
Then each grandparent chose a recipe that they would like to pass down l’dor v’dor, from generation to generation, and each grandparent-grandchild pair made their recipe together at home, documenting their experience through pictures and journal entries.
G2: Global Intergenerational Initiative is a year-long program of The Jewish Agency For Israel (JAFI) and JEWISHcolorado that explores Jewish family legacies and values through grandparent-grandchild connections. In addition to programming here in Colorado, the inaugural cohort will connect and engage with the Israeli cohort, from Ramat HaNegev, JEWISHcolorado’s partnership region in Israel. The yearlong journey will culminate with a 10-day trip to Israel and the creation of memories that will last a lifetime.
