As an anesthesiologist, I have heard many patients’ family members say: “I wish I would have asked them yesterday what mattered most to them.” “I wish I wasn’t so scared to talk to them about death when we had the chance.” “I wish I would have made time for this conversation.” It doesn’t have to be this way. This program will help individuals get clear about what they want to happen should an illness or accident render them unable to make decisions for themselves in a hospital. It will teach them the most important questions to answer for themselves and then prepare them to share their wishes with their loved ones. This program will address: Why sharing what brings us joy is so valuable Why simply filling out the legal documents is never enough Why you can’t assume your family will just know what to do Why starting this conversation is a gift for you and your loved ones Why this conversation is valuable at all ages Individuals will leave with a conversation guide to help them navigate the most important points they need to share with their loved ones. Talking about what matters most to us brings strength and clarity to the critical moment when our loved ones may have to make decisions for us. Most importantly, this conversation enriches our lives now.
