In an era marked by the Israel-Hamas conflict, campus protests, and a contentious election year, we face many emotionally charged issues that exacerbate preexisting rifts. The ideological gaps, communication breakdowns, and diminishing mutual respect between conservatives and progressives, North Americans and Israelis, and between parents and their children (or their parents) present a daunting yet urgent challenge.

Fortunately, the kabbalah and received Jewish spiritual tradition offer two invaluable principled practices to help us bridge these growing divides. In this special summer session, we will explore and practice the art of machloket l’shem shamayim (debate for the sake of heaven) and tocheicha (loving rebuke). Join us to learn how these ancient insights can foster understanding, respectful discourse, and reconciliation in today’s polarized world.

Instructor: Rabbi Jamie Arnold

Classes are offered in-person and virtually through Zoom
