HANNAH KAPNIK SCHOLAR IN RESIDENCE

Hannah’s Fall participation with Kohelet will continue on November 16th.

Please join us, starting at 9am, for a beautiful davening service.  A Kosher meal will be provided following the service. Please do not bring food to Kohelet on the 16th.  Child programming will also be led that morning by Eliana Hettleman and friends of hers from BBYO.

Hannah will also be starting her 6-part learning series with us that afternoon, following lunch.  The class is called “Ancestors, Powers, and Holiness”: The First Three Blessings of the Amidah as Poetry. What becomes possible when we know the intention of the poets who crafted our liturgy?

Join us as we look at the poetry of the first three blessings of the Amidah – the central Jewish prayer. We will explore the contemporary liturgy, ancient versions of it, and the referenced biblical intertexts – the biblical stories and concepts invoked – to deepen our connection with prayer and its purpose. After exploring the text and context of each blessing, we will each craft our own prayer pages, making art alongside the text of the blessing.  Dates for the subsequent classes will be

November 22, December 6, December 20, January 10, and January 31st.  All of those latter classes will be on Fridays from 12-1:15.

We will also be having a Friday night service with Hannah on December 13th.  Again, this will be combined with child programming and a Kosher meal.

Please also put on your calendars the date for Hannah’s last service leadership with us as part of the Scholar in Residence, on Friday night January 31st.

Please RSVP to attend: Daniel Hettleman at danielhettleman@gmail.com
